Today, we will get practical with WeChat. In this course, we’re exploring the friendly side of WeChat –because, at its core, WeChat is all about being social! We’re diving straight into the social side, focusing on Moments posts. I’ll show you the Moments post types, how to create them, update your status, and connect with friends in chats. But that’s not all – we’ll uncover hidden features in chats and wrap up by sharing some exclusive Chinese user tricks.

Creating a Moments post and uploading a Status
Create a WeChat moments post
WeChat Moments is the main feature of WeChat, where you upload posts and view your friend’s posts. In Chinese, it’s called 朋友圈 This means a circle of friends. This feature’s most significant advantage compared to other social media platforms is the high level of privacy. You can control who will see your posts and hide posts from specific users.
By uploading a WeChat moments post, you can share your thoughts and private moments and promote your business! There is the possibility to upload video posts, photo posts, or a post with text only. This is your space to express yourself. Let’s upload our first post!
Posting a post with video or photos
Creating a WeChat moments post is the Best way to show the world that you are using WeChat and to update your friends about your daily life. This is how to upload a post with photos or a video.
1. Open Wechat, Go to me, Press on My Posts, then press on My Moments, which means “my posts”.
2. Next, press on the square with the camera icon.
3. Now, it’s the fun part. We will upload a post in our WeChat moments. You can take a photo or video right now or choose pictures from your photo album. If you choose photos from the album, choose nine images, as they will suit perfectly with the 9 square grids. If you select a video, you are limited to a video of up to 30 seconds. By the way, There are two tricks regarding the moments that I teach in my workshop. The first is how to upload a “killer post” with special grids, and the second is how to upload a 1-minute video.
4. If you wish, write your location and scroll down until you find it. If it’s not there, mention the city or the country you are in.
5. You can mention a WeChat friend, and this will tag him to this post. That way, he will be notified.
6. Share to option is very important. This is the place to decide who to share this post with.
7. You can make it public and share it with everyone in your WeChat contact list.
8. Pressing private will keep this post visible only to you.
9. Share list option is a great shortcut. If you wish to send it to a group, choose it or select friends from your contacts.
10. The Don’t Share list option is the same as the previous one, but you are choosing the contacts you want to hide your posts from now.
11. You can share this post on your Facebook and Twitter by clicking the icons below and linking it to your WeChat.
Post with a text-only
1. Go to the Discover tab and press on Moments.
2. Press on the camera icon on the top right side of your mobile, press and hold (a long press)
You will reach an option to write a post text. This option is without adding any photos.
3. After writing your post, follow the same steps as a regular post, add a location, mention a friend, and decide who will see this post.
Create WeChat Banner
The weChat banner is the background users see when entering your profile. This strategic choice provides an opportunity to make a lasting impression and establishes a professional tone for your digital presence. Choose a personal background to express yourself.
Go to My Posts and Moments, and you will see the banner at the top of the screen. Press on it and choose a beautiful photo. What about the WeChat “story”? This is called the WeChat status!
Upload your first status
The status option allows you to share a short video or a photo in a “story” format with your co-workers and family for 24 hours. The goal is to let you share what’s going on with you in a fun and quick way. It is the equivalent of Facebook and What Up status. Here is how to upload and edit it:
1. Go to Me tab.
2. Tap the plus status option below your profile photo to upload a new status.
3. Choose a status by selecting an icon according to your current status. You have categories such as feelings, work & study, activities, breaks, and more.
After deciding on your status, you can make it more detailed and write a sentence explaining it. You can add a background photo and location. Next, you can decide if this status will be visible to all of your contacts or to make it visible only to a few.
In case you want the users to avoid seeing the photo. Make it blur by pressing on the blur option below.
You can check if your friends published their status by pressing the three dots beside the status bar.
If you want to gain more popularity, add a short video better with music so everyone can listen when they check your status.
4. Press the “That’s it” button and your status will be uploaded.
